Tesla Model Shines in May

The Netherlands have registered 588 plug-in passenger cars last month, down 8% Year-on-Year, with Year-to-date registrations now at 2.974 units, down just 2% YoY.

Breaking down sales by model, the Tesla Model S had 131 registrations last month, followed by another Tesla, the Model X (100 units) and the all-electric version of the Hyundai Ioniq (88 units), making it a 100% BEV podium.

In the Year-to-date ranking, the Tesla Model S is firm in leadership, with 625 units, followed by the BMW i3 BEV and Tesla Model X, both tied in Second Place, with 359 registrations.

The best-selling plug-in hybrid in May was the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, with 53 units, edging closer to the Volvo XC90 PHEV, that with 84 registrations, is the best selling plug-in hybrid this year.

Last month, PHEVs were down 80% Year-on-year to 99 units, derived from the end of plug-in hybrid incentives, with YTD numbers being only 28% (494 units) of the 2016 tally in the same period. On the other hand, BEVs were up 213% in May, with yearly sales rising 92% this year, to 2.480 units, representing 83% of all PEV sales in 2017.
