The city has a demand driven approach to install charging infrastructure for people and companies that do not own private parking space.
The public charging are installed, maintained and operated by Nuon/Heijmans. Payment by the users for electricity is part of the business case. There is however a maximum price set by the city of Amsterdam.

This is an obligation in the contract with the company that is contracted to install, maintain and operate the charging infrastructure
There is already a city wide coverage with over 2000 chargers and this network will be extended to 4000 chargers in the next two years.
